Falling Water Skylight

In 1995, I was awarded Percent for Art Commission to do "Falling Water Skylight," a 14' x 30' x 6', seven ton, glass & steel sculpture for the Grand Stair Hall of the Minnesota Judicial Center on the State Capitol Grounds, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Thirty-three steel framed, irregularly shaped boxes and six hundred and fourteen pieces of laminated, clear, textured, pastel colored glass are suspended over the two story, Grand Stairs.

Shaped panels of clear, tinted and textured glass are positioned to create overlays of reflected colors and shadows. Differing daylight conditions cause the Skylight to constantly change appearance filling columns, walls and floor with textured shapes of color.

Note: The piece was featured in 3M Today (3M's corporate communications magazine) since we used one of their products for this sculpture. Click on the link to read the article!
