HOW NOAH LED TO REDEMPTION
In 1996, I asked 2 questions:
1. How do I make a window as beautiful from the outside as it is on the inside?
One window, two different visual experiences?
A window as welcoming on the outside as it is on the inside?
2. Why are sacred windows always flat?
For two years, I researched stain glass windows from the 10th to the 13th centuries. I copied, cut and measured pictures of windows, rearranging and breaking them apart to look at their structure.
I finally knew what to do: Instead of structuring the window through flat facets, approach the window like a sculptor! Nothing is to be flat, images become "objects." Everything else followed.
The Noah story has vivid imagery. I built the ark, the cypress tree and the home Noah is asked to leave. I used the waterfall imagery to portray rain. I built the window around those objects.
I saw the "Noah Window" as a prototype of possibility. It is a sculptural window, viewable from inside and outside and was the forerunner to Redemption Window!
